The principle founders of the
Dominion Science Center project:
Ellen McHenry has lived in the State College area for over twenty
years. She is a PSU graduate (fine art and math) and has several published childrens books. She has taught hands-on
science classes for grades 2-8 for twelve years and currently co-directs and teaches for Solid Foundation Educational Association,
which offers classes and activities for homeschoolers and cyberschooolers in Central PA. She invents and builds all
sorts of educational things including educational games, science curricula and hands-on science exhibits. (To learn
more about her educational products, visit: ellenjmchenry.com) Her dream is to have
a facility she can fill with extremely fun and very educational exhibits.
Hannah (McHenry) Lysczek is a native of State College and graduated from PSU in 2008 with a degree in
animal science. Her dream is to operate a small zoo that would provide up-close visits with animals-- something a large
city zoo can't do. Right now she has a small zoo at home, which she gladly takes on tour occasionally for petting zoo
gigs. Hannah works for the Vet Extension at PSU, teaches high school biology to homeschoolers, and rebuilds and
repairs mopeds in her spare time. She is interested in many branches of science and would like to make a career of serving
her community by offering high-quality, hands-on educational opportunities.
Eric Lysczek
grew up in Reading, PA, and moved to State College to pursue a PhD in materials science at Penn State. He is currently employed
by the Applied Research Lab at PSU. He rebuilds and repairs mopeds and motorcycles in his spare time.
He is a born mechanic and a natural teacher, and is excited about being a part of the DSC team. He brings expertise
in construction materials and techniques, as well as an enthusiasm for all branches of science.
